LOUISA — Lawrence County School Superintendent Dr. Robbie Fletcher said Thursday on Twitter that Louisa Middle School received a “vague” bomb threat in the form of a note left in one of the bathrooms.
The school was evacuated, but law enforcement officials cleared the building to insure it was safe for students to return to class.
Later in the day, Fletcher issued a release regarding the incident, stating that the LMS administration had received an anonymous bomb threat. They immediately evacuated the building and contacted local authorities as well as the Kentucky State Police, the release said.
“After a thorough assessment of the building, we were given the ‘all clear’ to move students back to class shortly after 10 a.m.,” Fletcher said in the release.
Fletcher praised LMS students and staff for quickly and orderly evacuating the building.
“Students were well-behaved and cooperative during the event,” Fletcher said. “Also, I appreciate the short response time of the Kentucky State Police team, the Lawrence County Sheriff and Louisa City officers, our fire department volunteers and all other first responders who were on the scene. Finally, thank you to our community for the trust you have in us to provide a safe environment for our children.”
Fletcher said there were two text messages and alerts that were sent using their Apptegy system to Louisa Middle parents/guardians during the event.”
Fletcher said that if a LMS parent did not receive a text message or an alert concerning the incident, the school administration does not have their phone number in its records.
“It is the same system that we use for school cancellations,” he said. “If you would like to add a phone number to our records, please call the front office of your school.”
