LOUISA — A Louisa mother and her son, Donna Fluty and Gregory Fluty, gave a tour of their house on HGTV’s “Ugliest House in America” in an episode of the series that was broadcast Thursday and found that they had moved on to the next round toward winning a $150,000 makeover of their residence.

On the season finale Friday, however, they learned that they did not win the grand prize.

The show’s host, Retta, returned to Manassas, Va., to announce that the House of the Gilded Angel won the the “Ugliest House in America” competition.

“I’d be lying if I said I weren’t disappointed in the outcome,” Gregory Fluty said. “Nonetheless, the whole experience was a blast and we have no regrets about participating. The entire crew was amazing while they were here and I could never say enough good things about them. We wish the winners all the best with their remodel and we thank HGTV for the opportunity to feature out little town on the show.”

During his appearance on HGTV, Gregory Fluty told Retta that the home was built in 1924 and that his grandmother had lived across the street from it when he was young.

While touring the outside of the house, located on Franklin Street in Louisa, he told Retta that people called it a boat house because of the way it was constructed.

Retta toured the inside of the residence, and when the Flutys went into the kitchen, he pointed out a hole where an opossum had come in before.

Retta said if an opossum comes in while she was there, “it’s over.”

The bathroom had a glass door and a settee inside.

There was also miscellaneous wallpaper all over the house.

“I’ve never seen that much wallpaper,” Retta said as she was leaving to go to the next location. “I think we will call this the Patchwork Possum Pad.”

Later in the show, after visiting other contenders, the Flutys were informed that they would move to the next round in the competition but on Friday learned that they were not the winner.

Due to confidentiality agreements they signed, they were not permitted to talk about the outcome before the show aired.
