Louisa City Ordinances on Golf Carts and UTV/ATV Effective Jan. 1

The Louisa City Council has passed two Ordinances that will be in the books January 1, 2026, concerning golf carts and all-terrain vehicles being operated within the city.
Both will have to be inspected by the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office for a fee of $15 required by Kentucky state law.
A city sticker will also have to be obtained after the inspection from city hall that cost will be $10 a fee that was set by the council, who decided to set their cost $5 below what surrounding cities are charging.
Drivers must have a valid operator’s license and they are required to have headlights, turn signals, tail lights, and insurance and considered street-legal.
Whoever violates any provision of this chapter shall be fined not more than $50.
Any person violating the provisions of this Ordinance shall be guilty of a violation and subject to a fine of not less than $25 nor more than $250 for each violation, plus any court costs which may be imposed.
Any person having more than (3) violations within a twelve-month period shall be subject to having his or her golf cart permit revoked for a period of (6) months.
