Wearing masks in public school buildings is a requirement in school districts in the Big Sandy region.

The Martin County School District said Sept. 14 that the school board voted to continue to mandate all students from preschool through grade 12 as well as the staff and visitors to continue wearing a mask inside all buildings and on buses.

Floyd County Superintendent Anna Shepherd announced Sept. 10 that they would continue to follow their Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity Service Plan approved by the Floyd County Board of Education on Aug. 23.

The Johnson County School District announced Sept. 12 that it would continue with required mask-wearing inside all school buildings and on buses for all students, staff and visitors until further notice due to the data in the Johnson County COVID-19 Dashboard and the high incidence rate in the community.

Paintsville Independent and Lawrence County announced Sept. 12 that they also would continue the mask mandate.
