The Lawrence County Fiscal Court met in regular session Tuesday morning, Feb. 17, to approve minutes from the Jan. 20 meeting and vote on the monthly maintenance items such as treasurer’s report and approve bills.
The fiscal court also voted on a replacement for Josh Puckett who was on the Lawrence County Health Department Board, who stepped down because he also has a spot on The Big Sandy Regional Detention Center Board. The court approved his wife Lisa Puckett to take his place on the LCHD board.
Lawrence County Superintendent Katie Webb addressed the court to thank the road crews and everyone who made it possible for the students to be back in school.
“We are on our 101th day of school today with 69 more to go to finish out this year,” said Webb. “We are working on the amended calendar and will be getting that out as soon as we get it completed.”
The Lawrence County High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) students were on-hand to have Lawrence County Judge Phil Carter and the fiscal court members to sign a proclamation stating that the Lawrence County Fiscal Court designate February 21-28 as National FFA Week and encourage all citizens to recognize and support the contributions of FFA members and the importance of agricultural education in our community.
The judge also spoke about plans he has for making a mobile health van that will provide a nurse in the Blaine and Fallsburg communities certain days a week in the very near future and plans to provide land in both communities for libraries that he says he has been working together with the Lawrence County Public Library.
Next regular fiscal court meeting will be Tuesday, March 17 at 10 a.m.
