A bridge in Blaine known as the Hoods Creek Bridge will be named in honor of brothers, Marion Junior Wheeler and Lowell Haskell Wheeler for their brave and honorable service during the Korean War.

The renaming of the bridge was voted and passed by the Lawrence County Fiscal Court.

Marion and Lowell both born in Blaine to Ossie and Nora Wheeler, signed up in the Army during the war.

Marion was in infantry where he served 2 and a half years while Lowell drove a tank during his time earning numerous medals including a Bronze Star.

Lowell led a platoon of soldiers through a mine field guiding his tank through it while the soldiers followed safely behind. When a bridge was about to be destroyed Lowell managed to drive his tank across while another tank stalled on the bridge, without hesitation he went back, hooked up to the tank and pulled it to safety.

Never taking credit for anything Lowell always said “you did what you had to do.”
