LOUISA — New cabins are getting ready to open at Yatesville Lake.

The first two Lakeview Cabins — owned and operated by Suzie New; her son, Clifford New; and his wife, Tamyra New — should be ready to rent by the end of April.

“This has been a five-year process,” Suzie New said. “When COVID-19 hit, it slowed us down,” she said. “There should be a total of nine cabins when we’re done.”

She said four of the cabins would have two bedrooms each and sleep six people, with a full kitchen. The others will be like a hotel room with a kitchenette and a microwave. The cabins will also be supplied with cookware and dishes.

“Some of the cabins will also have a hot tub,” she said. “They are by the beach area, and we’ve been working with the Corps of Engineers to get boat docks for each of the cabins so they can take off in their boat and go to the cabin. They can walk straight out onto the beach. There is fishing, hiking, rent a kayak, enjoy inflatables, and the marina is nearby.”

Suzie New said that the cabins are already built and that they are clearing ground and hooking up utilities before moving them in.

She said they plan to rent the cabins for a minimum of two nights or a full-week.

“The fiscal court is adding new stuff at The Cove,” Suzie New, manager of The Cove, said. “There are also refreshments available at The Cove.

Lawrence County Deputy Judge-Executive Vince Doty said the fiscal court is working on improvements in the beach area that will include revamping the water slide, jet skis for rent, paddle boats, inflatable water tricycles, and clearing more hiking trails.

He said they can also bicycle in the area and that they are looking at other things like expanding and keeping activities going through the spring and fall.

“We also have movies on the water, and if we can come up with other activities, we will probably do them,” Doty said.

“The Corps of Engineers has been extremely helpful,” New said. “It’s been a learning experience.”

The number to reach Lakeview Cabins is 606-385-0457.
