PRESTONSBURG — Kentucky State Police Pikeville Post 9 is conducting an investigation after a Floyd County man died following his arrest March 1.
Steven Moore, 43, of Eastern, was pronounced dead at McDowell ARH.
Floyd County sheriff’s deputies notified the KSP post in Pikeville that they had been involved in a vehicle pursuit that led to a foot pursuit and ultimately Moore’s arrest, according to a KSP press release.
A preliminary investigation indicates that after Moore was taken into custody, he became unconscious and appeared to be suffering from a medical emergency, the release said.
Deputies on scene administered first aid until emergency personnel arrived, the release said. Moore was transported to McDowell ARH, where he was later pronounced dead by the Floyd County Coroner’s Office.
Moore’s body was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. The ongoing investigation is being conducted by KSP Sgt. Steven Mounts, who was assisted on scene by KSP Post 9 personnel.
Moore is survived by his mother, Linda Wright Moore; three brothers, Barry Moore of Eastern, Stanley Moore of Obetz, Ohio, and Brian Moore of Hindman; and two sisters, Elizabeth Sizemore of Prestonsburg and Marissa Koch of Alvordton, Ohio.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Nelson Frazier Funeral Home in Martin, with burial in Salisbury Cemetery in Hunter.
