Eight new cases of the coronavirus have been identified in the region within the last week, including one at a personal care home in Paintsville. The Johnson County Health Department initially reported the positive case at Venture Home last Wednesday, June 17. “The patient is asymptomatic and doing well,” the health department said on its Facebook page last Wednesday. The health department said the facility had been placed on lockdown. “No visitors are allowed at this time, and residents cannot leave the building. The facility has been cleaned and disinfected and common areas have been closed.” Mountain Comprehensive Care Center’s clinic in Paintsville has since tested the remaining residents as well as staff at Venture Home, the health department said. The Venture Home case was identified Thursday as a 57-year-old asymptomatic man. The health department also reported a second COVID-19 case Thursday, identified as a 19-year-old symptomatic man who is quarantined at home and who is not related to the Venture Home case. Those cases brought Johnson County’s positive coronavirus cases to nine, with five receovered and four active. Five new cases were reported last week by the Floyd County Health Department, including two last Wednesday and one each on Thursday, Friday and Sunday. The health department said Sunday’s case — the county’s 26th positive test — is “related to an earlier one and has symptoms but is currently able to manage at home.” “Please practice behavior that will lessen the spread of the virus such as wearing a mask if you are in public; practice social distancing by staying at least 6 feet from those who don't live with you; and avoid crowds,” the Floyd County Health Department said. A new COVID-19 case was reported in Martin County as of Sunday, with the county’s health department saying that the person is asymptomatic and is “sheltering at home as directed.” The new case brings Martin County’s total to four, with three fully recovered, according to the health department.
