INEZ — Unidentified human remains were found at 1579 South Milo Lake in the Tomahawk community of Martin County Saturday.

Martin County Coroner Chris Todd said Tuesday morning that he and Kentucky State Police were on their way to the scene of where the remains were found to see if they can find any other evidence.

Todd did not know at press time Tuesday who had found the remains but said it was his understanding that they were found by someone on the hill looking for Indian fossils.

“They brought them down in a bucket, and (Sheriff) John Herman (Kirk) took them to a doctor and had them check it to make sure they were human and they seemed to think they were,” Todd said. “He called me, and I checked and they are for sure human.”

Todd said they had no idea who the remains could be but that he knew of two people who are missing.

“Right now, that is all we know about it, but I will be taking the remains to Frankfort so that they might be able to get the identity of the person,” Todd said. “We will keep the public informed as we learn more.”
