“Hayden the Miracle Pig” visits Louisa City Council meeting
By Erin Evans
The October meeting of the Louisa City Council had a very special guest, “Hayden The Miracle Pig,” along with his owners, Debbie Pack Roberts and Roy Roberts. The couple brought their miracle pig to receive a certificate of recognition from Mayor Harold Slone, for his extraordinary courage and to bring awareness that miracles do happen.
The story needs a little bit of background letting people know how this 5-month old Potbellied Pig became a miracle, so here goes, Hayden was born with a rare life-threatening birth defect that caused his liver to go inside his chest where is lungs are located.
Most pigs born like Hayden die at birth or shortly afterwards, Hayden however is defeating all odds, making him the only known living pig with this condition in the United States.
After visits to Ohio State University and North Carolina State University, the doctors could not believe he was alive and doing what he was doing on his own.
With all the medical knowledge from these universities, nothing could explain what they were seeing but his owners knew it was a miracle.
There was a similar human story about a man who had a simple surgery that went wrong and he was told he would never walk again. This man is Bryan Smith, a West Virginia Delegate, who defied all odds and told the doctors that he would walk again and he did.
So Hayden and Bryan have teamed up as the “Miracle Duo” with their motto “We Believe in the Power of Prayer.” Hayden with his owners and Bryan is traveling across the United States with hopes of making it to the White House to tell their story.
He has already received recognition from Olive Hill, Grayson, Salt Lick, Milton, Grafton and by Representative Patrick Flannery, Tom Smith, and Bryan Smith. Hayden will also be going on the floor of the House of Representatives in Frankfort in January of 2027.
