Funeral services held for Lawrence banker

LOUISA — Funeral services were held last Wednesday, Jan. 19, for retired Lawrence County banker Lafe Smith Hinkle II.

Hinkle died Thursday, Jan. 13, at King’s Daughters Medical Center following a brief illness. He was 71.

Hinkle was in the banking profession for more than 50 years, including 29 years at the former Inez Deposit Bank in Louisa. He retired from the bank in February 2021.

“The banking industry lended kindly to the stylish nature and professional look of Lafe,” his obituary said.

Hinkle was also an active member of the Lawrence County community. He graduated in 1968 from Louisa High School, where he played first chair trumpet and was chosen as Mr. Scarlack.

He was also a member of Richardson Masonic Lodge and a Kentucky Colonel.

Hinkle also served as chairman of the Lawrence County Democratic Executive Committee and as a member of the Lawrence County Board of Elections.

In addition, he served as chairman of Community Hospice and was a member of the local hospital board and Kentucky Enterprise Zone.

Hinkle is survived by his wife, Kathy Pack Hinkle; a daughter, Julia Rollins; a sister, Sharon Kinner; a brother, Randolph Hinkle; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 19, at First Baptist Church Louisa with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery in Louisa.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Lawrence County Humane Society or the First Baptist Church Building Fund.
