Four counties in red zone on state map

Their COVID-19 case numbers are down, but Lawrence, Johnson, Floyd and Martin counties are in the red zone of Kentucky’s coronavirus incidence-rate map.
Monday’s map showed Lawrence County at 30.8, Johnson County at 29, Floyd County at 34.9 and Martin County at 35.7.
But the number of new COVID-19 cases are down in the four counties, with a total of 164 new cases reported between Tuesday, Nov. 2, and Monday, Nov. 8.
New cases as of Monday included 27 in Lawrence County, 33 in Johnson County, 75 in Floyd County and 29 in Martin County.
Lawrence County had five additional coronavirus-related deaths during the period, including three reported on Nov. 4 and two on Nov. 8, bringing the county’s total to 45.
Sixty-seven coronavirus-related deaths have been reported in Johnson County and 36 in Martin County since the pandemic began in March 2020. Floyd County does not report a running total of its COVID-19-related deaths.
“One is from March 2021 and we were just notified,” the Lawrence County Health Department said in its Nov. 4 report. “Please remember the families in your thoughts and prayers.”
A total of 16,323 COVID-19 cases have been reported in the four counties since March 2020, including 2,693 in Lawrence, 4,277 in Johnson, 7,228 in Floyd and 2,125 in Martin.
