The Louisa Volunteer Fire Department was called for mutual aid on Sunday evening March 9, to a motorcycle crash just before 8 p.m. on US 52 (Tolsia Highway) and Mill Creek.
Police say the driver was traveling north on US 52 when he lost control of the motorcycle and ran off the right side of the highway striking the guardrail.
The name of the victim who died in the crash wasn’t released for over a week because according to Wayne County Sheriff Eddie Bradshaw, they hadn’t been able to reach all family members.
However, since then the driver has been identified as Leslie Newsome, 58, of Fort Gay, WV.
Newsome was the son of the late Jim and Pearl Newsome and is survived by his companion Crystal Newsome of Fort Gay; a son, Leslie K. Newsome of Fort Gay; and a daughter, Courtney Newsome Howell of Kermit, WV; two grandchildren; and several siblings.
He is preceded in death by a son, Leslie Allen Newsome.
Services for Newsome were Friday, March 14, at the Mullins Family Funeral Home, Warfield. He was laid to rest in the Christian Hill Cemetery of Wayne County, WV.
