PRESTONSBURG — The Floyd County School District has made changes to its food service program.

Food Service Director Dale Pack announced changes Friday that allow parents/guardians to pick meals up a week at a time.

“We have reviewed our meal service procedures and believe it is in the best interest of our students, staff and community members that we make the changes,” Pack said in his release.

Changes include meals being available to pick up on Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. only; meals will be free to any child ages 1-year-old to 18-years-old; parents/guardians can choose to pick up meals from any school, but only from one school per week (meals cannot be picked up at RLC/FCSI); and each child will receive five breakfasts and five lunches at the time of pickup.

“We would like to be able to continue our deliveries but it is simply not feasible at this time,” Pack said. “We are trying to reduce the number of contacts that our students and staff are potentially exposed to in an attempt to reduce the spread of the virus. We urge any family that is unable to pick up meals to call the school that your child attends to see if there are other avenues available in your area.”

Meals were available for pickup beginning Tuesday.

“We deeply regret having to make these changes for our students but we must be diligent in our steps to reduce the spread of the virus and protect our Floyd County Family as much as we can,” Pack said in the release.
