The Louisa Fire Department is gearing up for their annual Fire Safety Day this Saturday, Oct. 10.
The event will begin at noon and last until 4 p.m., at the Fire Training Center located beside the Louisa Senior Citizens Center (behind Giovanni’s Pizza).
There will be food available for purchase from John Boyz BBQ and activities for the kids such as fire truck rides, learn hands-only CPR. Inflatables, kids will learn how to use a fire extinguisher, there will be a kids firefighter challenge course and they will be able to explore gear and equipment used by firefighters. The Chill Spot will also be on hand with snow cones.
Firefighters have been visiting Louisa schools throughout the week and offered truck rides Tuesday evening for kids of all ages.
In recognition of Fire Prevention Week, Mayor Harold Slone and the City of Louisa, urge all residents and local businesses to take proactive steps to protect their homes and workplaces from preventable fire hazards. A working smoke alarm cuts the risk of dying in a home fire in half, making this the ideal time to test existing detectors, install fresh batteries, and replace units older than ten years. Simple habits, such as keeping space heaters clear of flammable materials, never leaving cooking unattended, and establishing two clear exit routes from every room, save lives.
“Our dedicated firefighters at the Louisa Fire Department stand ready day and night to answer the call, but true fire safety starts well before an emergency occurs,” said Mayor Harold Slone. “I encourage every family across Louisa to sit down this week, map out a clear home escape plan, and practice it together. By taking just a few minutes today to check our alarms and review basic safety steps, we can ensure our entire community stays safe, prepared, and resilient.”
Fallsburg Fire Chief Chris Jobe mirrored what Louisa Mayor advised and said lithium batteries were of great concern as well. Due to a scheduling conflict, Fallsburg Fire Department will be at Fallsburg Elementary Schools next week.
