Fallsburg Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a home on Old Fallsburg Road that was occupied by Cynthia Horn on Sunday morning, Jan. 4.

FVFD Chief Chris Jobe, said even after putting around 18,000 gallons of water on the house it reignited later and they were dispatched again where they were able to attempt to fully extinguish the home. No one was injured but the home was a total loss. A public service message was given by the fire department on social media Tuesday, January 6. “Over the last several days, you may have noticed a lot of smoke in the Fallsburg area. This is due to a structure fire that occurred early Sunday morning on Old Fallsburg Road. Our department along with Louisa Station 1&2 dumped over 18000 gallons of water on this structure since we first responded. As several people have pointed out, it is still burning. This is due to a couple issues, first things an older home with a non-truss roof system that failed very early in the fire. This allowed the older metal roof to collapse and conceal the interior of the house. This house was very full of clothing and other items stacked several feet high. This prevented the water from reaching the hot spots. The Fallsburg Fire Dept has continued working to extinguish the fire given the manpower we have on hand during the week. We are currently working on getting an excavator to help move the roof and debris. (Those with breathing problems should remain indoors until the smoke has lifted front the Fallsburg area.)” Louisa Volunteer Fire Department Station 1 and 2 provided mutual aid.
