Elderly Floyd man dies in crash

MINNIE – An elderly Floyd County man was killed in a two-vehicle collision Tuesday, July 6, at Minnie, according to the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched at approximately 1 p.m. to the crash site at the intersection of Ky. 122 and Ky. 680, the sheriff’s office said.
The preliminary investigation indicated that Maryland Conn Jr., 97, of Martin, was traveling east on Ky. 680 and attempting to make a left turn onto Ky. 122 when he pulled into the path of a utility/dump-style truck driven by Larry Compton, 56, of Minnie, who was driving south on Ky. 122.
Conn was pronounced dead at the scene by Floyd County Deputy Coroner Chuck Hall.
Maynard was a retired factory worker and Job Corps bus driver, and a U.S. Army and U.S. Coast Guard veteran.
Survivors include a son, Kenny Bentley of Prestonsburg; a brother, Virgil Conn of Allen; a sister, Susie Rickman of Munith, Mich.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Friday, July 9, at Hall Funeral Home at Martin, with burial in Davidson Memorial Gardens at Ivel.
