The Lawrence County Public Library has named Deanna Farris as the new director.
Farris has been the interim director since late September of 2024, when Carlie Pelfrey turned in her resignation citing that the reason for leaving her position as director was for the betterment of her family.
LC Library Board Trustee Susie Chambers said last week that she thought it would be a while longer before a director was named, however, during a special meeting the following day Wednesday, Jan. 15, it was announced the decision had been made after a vote in executive session.
Farris accepted the job at an annual income of $58,500. Even though the job paid a salary of $80,000 when Pelfrey had the position, the Board of Trustees decided a better salary would be between $50,000-$60,000 for a newly hired director.
Farris told The Big Sandy News, after hearing she would be the new director, that she was thankful for the new opportunity.
“I’m excited to start this new chapter in my career at the library,” Farris said. “In my 24 years here, I have had the privilege to work under three directors and in all three buildings. I hope to bring a feeling of warmth and welcoming to all that come into the library. I am thankful for this opportunity and for the privilege to continue working with the people in the community I grew up in and love.”
Farris said one of the first things she plans to do is restructure the staff already in place at the library.
