NASHVILLE, TENN. —Billy Ray Cyrus teamed up with his cousin, Bobby, a native of Lawrence County, and Bobby’s wife, Teddi Cyrus, a Floyd County native, on a new bluegrass collaboration, “Roll That Rock,” debuting their performance on the Grand Ole Opry Aug. 13, while the video premiered on CMT Aug. 17.
This is the first venture into bluegrass music for Billy Ray Cyrus, and it’s out now via Pinecastle Records. The song made its premiere on People.com and is available now for download from your favorite streaming service.
“I always prayed for purpose through the music. Started a band for that reason. When I started singing, ‘Roll That Rock,’ my inner spirit said Bobby Cyrus will know exactly what to do with this. He did,” Billy Ray Cyrus said about collaborating with his cousin. “He wrote the Gospel truth and then sang the daylights out of it with Teddy and a killer Bluegrass band reminiscent of Earl Scruggs and Bill Monroe.”
The video was filmed in Franklin, Tenn., at a historic barn. The song tells the story of Jesus’ resurrection, but with a clever and unique approach, according to a release announcing the new collaboration.
Bobby Cyrus said in the release that “Roll That Rock,” started as a collaboration between him and Billy Ray Cyrus as writers then his wife and her powerful vocals.
Bobby and Teddi Cyrus released their latest self-titled album earlier this year on Pinecastle Records as well as a solo version of “Roll That Rock,” as well as the lead single, “My Wedding Day.”
