PAINTSVILLE — Johnson Central High School’s long-time principal has moved to the board office to take a high-ranking administrative position, while one of his assistants has been named as his replacement at JCHS.

Noel Crum, who served two stints as JCHS principal, was named assistant superintendent, according to a press release by Superintendent Thom Cochran.

“Noel has been an integral part of the Johnson County Schools Leadership Team for many years and has proven his commitment to furthering the success of our school system,” Cochran said. “I look forward to working with Noel in the future.”

In addition to being JCHS principal, Crum has worn several hats in his 26-year career with the Johnson County School District. He began as a teacher and later became CTE vocational principal and the district’s innovation coordinator.

He was named the 2020 Principal of the Year by the Kentucky Association of Secondary School Principals.

As assistant superintendent, Crum will be a legislative liaison, the public relations/media contact and grant coordinator as well as work with certified evaluation plans and leadership development, according to Cochran.

Replacing Crum as principal at JCHS is Justin Arms, who began his career in the Johnson County district as a mathematics teacher 13 years ago.

He has also served as an engineering instructor, Skills USA advisor, co-chair of the engineering department, an assistant coach for the football and baseball teams, the BARR coordinator and the high school’s assistant principal.

“Justin has served Johnson Central High School as an administrator for several years,” Cochran said, “and I am certain that under his leadership as Principal, Johnson Central will carry on its tradition of outstanding student successes.”
