Annual Septemberfest in Lawrence County is fast approaching

LOUISA — Preparations are underway for the 36th annual Lawrence County Septemberfest, which is about a week away.

Septemberfest billed as “One of the best little street festivals in Kentucky” will begin Friday morning, Sept. 6, and closes late Saturday night, Sept. 7, with a fireworks display. This year’s theme is “Life on the Highway.”

The Lawrence County Youth Football League will host the annual Septemberfest Pageant on Monday, Sept. 2, at 5 p.m., at the Lawrence County Community Center (by the high school.)

The entry fee for the pageant is $50, with categories including prettiest baby boy/girl, newborn-12 months; cutest toddler boy/girl, 13 months-2 years; Tiny Mr./Miss Septemberfest, 3 to 5 years; Little Mr./Miss Septemberfest, 6-8 years; Young Miss Septemberfest, 9-12 years; Junior Miss Septemberfest, 13-15 years; and Miss Septemberfest, 16-18 years.

Registration on the day of the pageant will be 3-5 p.m., at the community center. No registration after 5:15 p.m., Sept. 2. Checks made payable to LCYFL. Most Photogenic is $5 per picture (5x7 or 8x10-no frames please, write name on the back). All judges decisions are final and no score sheets will be given out.

Septemberfest opens at 9 a.m., on Friday with the information booth and Arts and Crafts. Food vendors will be ready to feed the crowd by 10 a.m. The carnival rides and games also open at 10 a.m.

A new feature to Septemberfest this year is the “Open Mic” competition in the Main Street Park, beginning at 2 p.m. The winner will perform on the main stage later in the festival. Opening ceremonies on the main stage will begin at 5:30 p.m.

Live music takes the center stage at 6 p.m., with Guns for Hire, followed by HunterGirl at 7:30 p.m.

Headliner, Bret Taylor will take the stage at 9:30 p.m., she is married to LC native Adam Chaffins.

Saturday’s events begin at 7 a.m. with registration for the 5/10K walk at Lawrence County High School. The 5/10K walk begins at 8 a.m.

Food vendors open at 9 a.m., while the parade lineup starts at 9 a.m. at Louisa Plaza. The parade begins at 11 a.m. on Madison Street. Car Show registration begins at 10 a.m., at the First Baptist Church parking lot. Car show at noon with judging at 1 p.m.

A bluegrass concert starts at 1 p.m., at the Main Street Park stage with Hammertowne as the opening act. Lonesome Express performs at 3 p.m., with headliners, The Grascals taking the stage at 5 p.m.

Music continues at 6 p.m. with Walker Montgomery, followed by Dillon Carmichael at 7:45 p.m. and the headliner, Lorrie Morgan, at 9:30 p.m. The fireworks display begins following Morgan’s performance
